Al Tadamun started in 1996 when the Egyptian Field Office of Save the Children USA, in partnership with the local NGO Women’s Health Improvement Association (WHIA) presented a Group Guaranteed Lending and Saving (GGLS) as a pilot project in order to meet the needs of underprivileged Egyptian women micro-entrepreneurs and help them developing and expanding an already existing micro-project, which contributes to providing sufficient income to raise their standard of living for them and their families.
Subsequently, the pilot project witnessed a great development and growth, to turn into an actual project in 1998, which prompted Save the Children USA to extend the umbrella of project services to the neighborhoods of "Imbaba, Abdin and Dar El Salaam", using sustainable funding resources.
In July 2003, the three branches were merged together in partnership with Save the Children and the Women's Health Improvement Association, and renamed it to "Al Tadamun Microfinance Program" running under the legal umbrella of WHIA.
Al Tadamun became independent on March 22, 2009 and was officially registered as a non-governmental organization under the legal umbrella of the Ministry of Social Solidarity under number 573 in accordance with the provision of Law No. 84 of 2002 and its implementing regulations.
In January 2015, Al Tadamun became under the supervision of the Financial Regulatory Authority in accordance with the microfinance law no. 141 of 2014. On October 29, 2015 Al Tadamun obtained the license no. 1117 for practicing microfinance.

Chief Executive Officer
Engy Essam joined the team of Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation in January 2004, as a manager of management information systems for the three branches of the institution at the time, and in 2009 she assumed her current position as director of information systems. Engy graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Computer Department, Ain Shams University in 2001, then joined the Information Technology Institute program to obtain a diploma in software development in 2002. The director of information systems in the institution is keen on the weight of her skills and support for her great experience over the course of about 20 years, by attending many local and international training courses specialized in the field of microfinance, as well as training courses for trainers in managing information systems.
Reham Farouk has had many experiences over more than 20 years in the non-banking financial sector, passing through many prestigious institutions and bodies, as she is one of the prominent and influential figures in the field of microfinance, as well as the field of training. She graduated from the American University in Cairo in 1997 with high honors, from the Department of Business Administration with a minor in Economics and Accounting, with a focus on Marketing and Management Information Systems. She started her career working as a local consultant for Technopolis / UK, and after her graduation she held the position of Finance Director of the Private Sector Development Program "PSDP" at the European Commission - Egypt. After that, she was able to obtain a master’s degree in business administration in 2000 from the American University in Cairo, to join the field office of Save the Children in Cairo as a project officer, and in 2001 she worked as a freelance consultant for CARE in Egypt, in addition to the Egyptian Association For Small and Medium Enterprises "ESMA". She has been working since the beginning of 2003 until now, as a certified basic trainer, resident and oriented to the performance of trainers in many training courses, including product development courses, arrears management, interest rate setting, microfinance success and operational risk management in Sanabel, the "Microfinance Network in Arab Countries". Reham has held many prestigious positions throughout her career, as she is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development - United Kingdom, and since 2001 she has been the Executive Director of Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation, and in November 2017, she was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sanabel Foundation until year 2021. Reham Farouk received several distinguished awards, including the award for the best 50 influential women in business for the year 2019, and in 2016, she received an award from the Egyptian Microfinance Federation for her efforts to support the union, in addition to receiving an appreciation award in 2013. For her contribution to the establishment of "Sanabel", the microfinance network in the Arab countries. She participated in many conferences specialized in the field of microfinance, including the Sanabel Microfinance Network for Arab Countries Conference, which is held annually in different countries. She also participated in the Microfinance Summit, and other conferences that shed light on the field of microfinance.
Hatem Arabi has held many important positions over the course of his career that spans more than 25 years, with vast experiences in the fields of accounting, credit and microfinance. After graduating from the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University in 1990, Hatem worked in many prestigious companies and institutions. He worked as an accountant and legal auditor. In 1995, he joined one of the institutions working in the field of microfinance, the Egyptian Association for Small Enterprises Development, ESED, for a period of 5 years. In 1999, he joined Bahgat Group of Companies, "Bahagat Group" for 8 years, then moved to the work team of Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation in 2007, where he rose in positions from branch manager to area manager and then project manager, where he was responsible for launching a group One of the new products of the organization, knowing that this requires studying the market and understanding the needs of customers. The year 2017 witnessed the promotion of Hatem to become the Director of Operations and responsible for the expansion plan of Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation at the level of the governorates of Egypt.
Noha El-Sayed, Director of Marketing and Communications Department, has many experiences that she gained over 20 years of professional life through working and cooperating with many prominent Egyptian and regional institutions and bodies. She graduated from the American University, Department of Mass Communication in 1992, and over the next 30 years, she spared no effort to develop her abilities and high skills in communication and expand her network of relationships in the field of communication and training. Noha was able to develop her CV by working in several reputable organizations, including the European Union, USAID, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and several consulting firms in Egypt and Britain. As a result of its work and cooperation with various prominent bodies and organizations at the local, regional and international levels, it has strengthened its ties with both the private and governmental sectors, in addition to civil society organizations, donors, communication and training experts inside and outside Egypt.
Mohamed Safwat began his career as a translator in the Ministry of Communications in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 1982 until 1996, after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts - Department of English Language, from the Faculty of Al-Alsun in 1979 from Ain Shams University. Safwat worked for Save the Children USA - Cairo Regional Office as administrative and human resources director until 2008. Then, during the same year, he moved to work for Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation as Personnel Director, and was promoted as Director of Human Resources at Al Tadamun in 2020 (Then he was promoted in 2022 as Executive Vice President of Human Resources), and he is keen To support the experiences he gained during his professional career, by obtaining many training courses inside and outside Egypt in the field of human resources.
Ahmed El Malky graduated from the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration, English section, Helwan University in 2005, and joined Hazem Hassan consulting firm for Auditing and Accounting from 2006 to 2015. He worked as an auditor then supervisor. He gained experience in auditing and evaluating the internal system, creating auditing programs, as well as reviewing the financial statement in addition to creating management reports including relevant monitoring and review reports. Then he joined Handicap International Foundation from 2015 till 2016 as Financial Supervisor. After that, he moved to Microfinance supervisory unit which is an affiliate to the non-governmental governmental entities from 2016 to 2017, where he worked as Internal Audit Supervisor. In July 2017, he joined Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation as an Internal Audit Manager. Throughout his career, Ahmed participated in various training courses such as: accounting standards, auditing standards, financial analysis, and microfinance performance management to improve performance.
Mowafaq Sarhan has many experiences that he gained over the course of his career during more than 20 years of working in the microfinance and credit sector. He graduated from the Faculty of Commerce, Mansoura University in 1996. He started his career in 1998 by working for the Association of Businessmen and Investors for Local Community Development in Dakahlia, which is one of the microfinance agencies, where he held more than one position in the Operations Department, including branch manager, group lending program manager and deputy director of operations, then moved to work as deputy director of risk management for a period of time. 4 years. At the end of 2018, he joined Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation as Deputy Director of Risk Management, and was promoted in 2020 to become Director of Risk Management. He received many training courses on microfinance and training of trainers. He also provided technical advice to a microfinance institution in Sudan on the development of operations management policies and procedures.
Loay Hassan has more than 30 years of experience in the international NGO sector, having graduated from the Faculty of Commerce, Cairo University in 1987. He worked in the field of hotel finance from 1989 until 2001, then joined Save the Children in Egypt in 2001 as a supervisor and financial officer, and was promoted in 2012 to the position of Director of Administration and Logistics. In 2016, he joined the Egypt Youth Association as an internal audit manager, then moved in 2017 to Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation as Director of Administration and Procurement. During his career, he gained extensive experience working in various financial, logistical and security fields, working with multiple cultures, and with local NGOs.
